FELTED FLOWERS SUNDAY SESSION

There’s nothing quite like a table full of wool, warm soapy water, and a room buzzing with chat — and our recent wet felting flowers session with Karen Bowden of Fabulous Fibres, had all of that and more.

We spent a lovely day rolling, rubbing, shaping, and chatting our way through the process of turning fluffy fibres into felted flowers. Wet felting is one of those techniques that’s easy to get into, so it didn’t matter whether you were brand new to felting or have been at it for years — everyone just got stuck in.

Armed with wool, silk, and plenty of bubbles, we played around with colours, resists and layers. No two flowers came out the same — some were big and bold, others soft and delicate — and that was half the fun.

As always, working as a group made it extra special. Tips were shared across the table, ideas bounced around, and there was lots of admiring each other’s work mid-felting. It’s amazing how much you can learn just by watching someone else’s approach — or by asking “how did you do that?”

Of course, it wasn’t all about the flowers. There was plenty of chat, tea and catching up along the way. Days like this really remind us why groups like Feltmakers Ireland are so important — it’s about community, creativity, and enjoying the process together.

By the end of the session, we had all created a beautiful, felted bloom, ready to be turned into brooches, decorations, or added to future projects. Best of all, each one holds the memory of a relaxed, creative day spent in good company.

We’re already looking forward to the next Sunday Session making needle felted hearts on February 15th with Katarina of Woolstore — more wool, more laughs, and more feltmaking fun.
