CHICKENS AND EGGS WITH BELINDA REID
Our March Sunday session with Feltmakers Ireland West was a relaxed and enjoyable morning spent in great company, with plenty of making and a fair bit of laughter along the way. The workshop was led by Belinda Reid of Chasing Dreams Feltart, who guided us through both wet felting and needle felting techniques in a clear and approachable way.
This cute seasonal project worked well for all levels of felt maker and we began by loosely covering a plastic or polystyrene egg in our chosen wool which we lightly needle felting to hold the wool in place. We then got the soap and water out and wet felted the wool until it shrank into place on the egg form and, after cutting and rinsing it was time to turn our attention to the chick. As always, there were a few unexpected results, which only added to the fun of the morning.
Our Sunday sessions are as much about sharing skills as they are about the fun and enjoyment of meeting up with our felting friends, and yesterday was a wonderful example of what Feltmakers Ireland West is about.
All in all, a lovely way to spend a Sunday morning!
Using yellow carded wool the chick was needle felted in four parts - first the body was made by creating a round ball about 2cm in diameter. Next, a smaller ball was made and attached to the body and finally the wings and beak created to bring our chicks to life.
There was lots of easy conversation and laughter throughout, with people sharing ideas, comparing results, and helping each other along. It made for a lovely welcoming atmosphere, especially for the new members who joined us; it was great to see them all settle in so quickly and get involved.
Our NEXT SUNDAY SESSION WILL BE ON 12th april 2026
To join us you must be a member of FELTMAKERS IRELAND
